Why am I Obsessed with Halloween?

  1. Ballet Class – age 4 – the older girls got to wear blue tutus for the recital and we all had to wear pink. At a very young age I knew pink was not my color and blue would bring out my eyes. I may or may not have taken a blue tutu while no one was looking and put it on my head, just to add a splash of color.

  1. Halloween – age 6 – I was Miss America, my best friend was Sleeping Beauty. I wore grandma’s old negligee and a tinfoil crown, she wore silky pale blue pajamas with a matching robe and a red rose in her long wavy hair. Jealousy ensued.

  1. Spring Fling Show – age 8 – I got to be Jane in a school production of “Let’s go fly a kite” from Mary Poppins. My Mom made me a pale green, dropped-waist dress with puffed sleeves. I was convinced that it was the most beautiful dress ever. I flew my kite with extra panache that night…

  1. 4th Grade – age 9 – My mom made me an long sweatshirt top with pink and grey stripes that matched my pink and gray hi-tops. When I got to school I took off my jean shorts and wore the long shirt with just my tights underneath because it seemed more stylish that way. I remember dancing around in this outfit (I’m not making this up) to Michael Jackson’s “Bad” out on the playground. My friend Kim brought her little pink boom-box to school and I just remember this kid next to me doing the “mime dance” and I thought….”wow, I need to get me some better moves…”

  1. Prom – age 16 – I wore a Halloween costume to prom. (A vintage flapper dress) and I still think it is the most badass dress I’ve ever worn.

  1. Halloween 2004 - age 25 – My inner fashionista (who had lain dormant and only manifested itself in my Imelda-Marcosian shoe collection) comes out in a elaborate Marie Antoinette costume that blows everyone away. I am hooked.

  1. Pre-Halloween sewing panic 2006 – age 27 – I realize that by agreeing to become a costume obsessed Halloween absorbed lunatic, I am setting myself up for a life time of back breaking work. And I couldn’t be happier.

And there's more where that came from...

So, I have some news. I wasn't sure I wanted to blog about it, just in case it doesn't work out, but then I thought, meh... who cares?

I am going to be on television! The History Channel is filming an episode for their show Modern Marvels called "Christmas Tech" and they are coming to Evergreen to interview us about advancements in the Holiday industry. My bosses have agreed that I will be the interviewee, and I'm really not sure how this is all going to go down.

There is a good possibility that I will get nervous, throw up on the camera man, and then my segment will be cut. Or there is always a chance they will think we're boring and cut us anyway. You just never know, but on the off chance that they DO put our bit on the show...I'll make sure to post when it is coming on.

And in other news, I need a new pair of t-strap suede wedges for the interview. You may ask, (as Tim has...) don't you already own a pair of shoes that will work just as well? The answer is yes...but with the right pair of shoes, the extra 10 lbs might not matter so much. Which is good, because there is no way I'm losing that before next Wednesday.

p.s. The cats managed to wake me up at 6 this morning, but I was planning on getting up anyway, so it wasn't a huge inconvenience. I'm learning to be more flexible people.... this is HUGE. Posted by Picasa

The Tetherball?

I am a tetherball!
Find your own pose!

Okay, that is strangely right on. I can't have anyone touching me when I'm trying to sleep. Don't get me wrong, I like to cuddle...but only in the morning, when it's not time to get up and I'm feeling lazy. At night time, to have my space invaded by touch is unacceptable.

But I like to know that Tim is there. If he gives me a little pat, that makes me feel reassured that he is there. I don't know how we manage this in our tiny full sized bed. We need to buy a grown up bed one of these days. His feet hang off the end, our covers are always disheveled....

Actually, our sleeping pattern looks more like this:
okay, the cat thing is a lie. I don't let the cats sleep with us... I know! I'm a horrible pet mother and how mean of me! The thing is, I'm a light sleeper and if I get woken up, I have a really hard time going back to sleep. I like the cuddly-ness of our kitties, but not the obnoxious meowing for breakfast at 4 in the morning! (Daisy, I'm talking to you!)

I know I better get over that business before I have kids. I am going to have to get used to staying up all night long... then that breakfast at 4 thing won't seem so out of the ordinary.
Alrighty, it's final then. Kitties are welcome on the bed tonight. I'll let you know tomorrow if I managed to sleep at all.

My true colors are shining through...

my natural color
Originally uploaded by villanovababy.
I’m about to share another truth, people… You may think that with my super-fair complexion that this pale shade of blonde that I rock , is my natural color. But you’d be wrong. I have been dying my hair for years… Lots of various shades of blonde, but never too close to the real shade. I’m actually closer to a strawberry/dishwater blonde. There, I said it.

That being said, you may wonder if there is anything else fake on me. You wouldn’t be the first one to think this. But let it be known, that my eyes are natural blue, my bosoms are naturally fluffy, and my beauty mark on my cheek is merely a coicidence and part of the community of 18 million beauty marks that dot my entire personal landscape.

And that’s the truth.

It's beginning to look Halloweeeeeeeeny!

Know how I know? Skull beer bongs are 20% off!!!!!

So much planning to do, so little time... I'm behind the curve a bit this year with my party planning. (and my costume planning... ) But I always pull it out in time and this year, I have another ally, Gillian... My new friend who also happens to love Halloween almost as much as I do. We are joining forces as the ..ahem... Legion o' Doom. Muuuwhahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahaahahahahaaaaaa *gasp* hahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

I am so excited, I might pee my pants!

Also, random sidebar...Saw old Air Force friends last week while at the Oktoberfest. Mostly felt a little sad for them. Ugh... what a sweet escape I made from that miserable life.

Oh and p.s. my hairstylist quit her job last week and I just found out today. I'm so sad... she's been cutting my hair for 3 years and now she's gone! WHO will give me my winter makeover???? *sigh* Finding a really good hair person is SO hard. :(

The crusty lie.

I am not naturally cute. It takes work... little things like my new eye cream and a hairbrush. And if I need to be especially cute, curlers for my hair and eyelashes. And black liquid eyeliner.

This is what cute looks like:

This is what I really look like:

Whew! What a relief to have that out in the open. My weekend crustiness for all the world to see. Don't judge me...we're all crusty on some level.

Latest and Greatest

With the onset of a real job and my extra time being filled with Halloween prep, I feel like I should warn you that my posts be become slightly less frequent. I know... HOW COULD I? But the thing is, anyone who knows me knows that around September October, I get scarce. Usually it's because I'm holed up in my basement struggling to create an absurdly accurate costume that no one will appreciate except me. (And maybe the WETA people, if they would ever answer my letters!)

That being said, I will try to keep you updated on my latest and greatest adventures through photos, since I ALWAYS have my trusty little canon with me and my trusty giant 1gb card that makes it possible for me to take 500 photos of my cats and still have plenty of space left to document any other tomfoolery that happens to arise.

So, to wrap up the vacay... The work was excellent. We got a lot done at Bridgeport and I feel confident that if this project goes well, it could catapult me to success at Evergreen, and by success, I mean, possibly getting a door for my office.

The wedding was HECTIC. It was a lot to squeeze in to two days, but I'm a party animal and I survived. Tim and I barely had any time to just chill with the fam until the last night we were there, but all the same, it was a good time. Mary looked radiant and I'm really happy for her and her new little family. Hopefully we will be getting a link to view all the photos soon. The lady that did their pics did a fantastic job and I'm excited to see all that she got.

Well, I'm gonna go relax, enjoy my wine and watch Food Network, because I'm a nerd, and I have a slight crush on Alton Brown.
