Wow... I knew I shared a birthday with Salvador Dali, but there are a lot of other famous people who share my birthday too. Like for instance, John Parrott, that famous English Snooker Player. (WTF is snooker?)

Also...Bob Marley died on my birthday when I was 2.

Queen Anne's Hill

This is a series of pictures that I took a few years back when I visited Echo and Utku in Seattle. I found it the other day and I think I'm going to get it framed... Seattle is soooo incredibly pretty. Really quite a wonderful city... Posted by Picasa

In the news...

I was at Target the other day and I overheard a little girl telling her mother how much she loved spinach. I had a flash and I pictured me with my daughter and she was telling me how much she loved spinach and I was SO proud. I so want to raise the kinds of kids that will eat healthy food and like it. Now, if only I could get Tim to like spinach, maybe that would be a start.

I must be hormonal this week. I’ve been thinking about kids a lot. It’s probably since our friend just bought a house and I’m wishing it was me. The little house, the little family…. I’ve got the nesting bug. I wonder if they have a pill for that?

And in other news, My boss told me today that they are considering hiring me full time so I can get health care! I’ve never been so excited to have a real job. Sure, the military gives you health care, but they also try to kill you half the time, so it’s the least they can do. I am totally kicking ass at my job. I feel so happy and empowered. I thought I knew Photoshop before, but I am learning piles of stuff everyday that I never knew. I’m becoming a faster and better designer with this job. I really like my boss too. I like everyone I work with, which is really a first for me. I am excited to go to that place and work really hard for not a ton of money….just because, it’s really fun and dammit… I LOVE CHRISTMAS!

We just got back from seeing the Da Vinci Code. I thought the book was pretty good and the movie is excellent as well. I actually thought Paul Bettany played the Albino perfectly. He was so incredibly tortured and creepy. It does make me think a lot about the church and the ideas that it presents. I’m reading this book right now called, “Papal Sins” and it’s all about the Catholic church and history of the position of Pope. It really just reinforces the idea to me that men are and really putting someone in a position where they have power over others is like giving them a loaded weapon. Almost no man is immune from temptation, not even the Pope. If there is just one true god (which I find doubtful) he surely must be saddened at all the rules that have been created and enforced in his name. It’s a sad thing really. But I’m not trying to start any kind of political/religious firestorm here. I really hate debating…

Our house is like a steam room. Ugh…. It’s so warm in here. I swear when we buy a house, I’m going to get those smart windows installed that keep heat in when it’s cold, and heat out when it’s hot. I can’t stand this awful sticky feeling…

Anyway, that's all for now... more to come.

Everyone knows...

...that I am cuckoo for costumes. I was watching a DVD of French & Saunders tonight and I actually started wondering if there was an event where I could dress up as a prima ballerina. Or the tooth fairy. I mean, I can't do that for halloween because I already have the next two years costumes planned out. Perhaps there is another holiday where I can dress up. So far I've got my birthday and Halloween. I'm thinking of taking Bastille day as a costume holiday as well...
yes, I'm crazy...no, they don't have pills for costume obsession. I've checked. Posted by Picasa

Like A Virgin

This is me (on the right) at age 18 at Tech School in Maryland.
I don’t remember how old I was when I first became aware of virginity and what it meant. But in any case, I knew by the time I was in high school that virginity was something that was meant to be a gift to your husband. It is a tangible thing that one hands over at the appropriate time. I’m not talking really about religion or morality here, because I think that most cultures value virginity no matter what their religious beliefs. A lot of value was placed on it in my family. I remember “the talk” with my Mom about how I should wait until my wedding night. I remember being a little perplexed at the idea that anyone would ever want to marry me, let alone take my virginity. That day came a few years later. More Posted by Picasa

Oh Baby...

I’m 13 years old. I’m in the living room of my parent’s house watching Cinderella with my sisters. The mice are singing about getting ready for the ball and in the master bathroom on the other side of the wall my Mom is complaining of contractions. My Father is firm but unconcerned as he tells us to get our things together. It has already been decided that I will be going with them up to the clinic for the birth. I don’t really want to go. I know enough about all this birthing stuff to know that it will mostly be a lot of waiting and lord knows, I don’t want to actually see the birth. My Mom is concerned about my connection with the baby since we will be so far apart in years, so she insists that I go with them.

We all pile into the car and head over to Mark and Carolyn’s house to drop off the girls. It all seems pretty relaxed. Mom doesn’t seem panicked and Dad pleasantly waves goodbye to the girls and promises to call as soon as there is any news. The drive down to the clinic is quiet and as soon as we get there, they bundle Mom into the back room and Dad has me lay out my sleeping bag. Hours go by and I read all the books in the waiting room. My favorite one is the one with the obscene pictures about “Where babies come from”. The pictures aren’t clinical like most, and involve some very cartoonish images of a fat balding man with a giant penis who seems to be copulating with a fat, large nippled, woman. . I try to imagine what their baby will look like and feel kind of grossed out by the idea.

I finally fall asleep only to be awoken a few minutes later. My dad says that Mom had a baby boy and would I like to see him. I crankily inform him that I’ll see the baby in the morning and he growls, “Your mother worked very hard, now you get in there…” I walk slowly down the long dark hall, hoping that all the blood and gore has been cleaned up. I’m greeted by two sleepy midwives who are quietly cleaning up. My mom looks tired and sweaty and on her chest is a very red little newborn. She hands him to me and I feel relieved that he is a boy. I know my parents didn’t want another girl.

I see how proud and happy my parents are and I feel the weight of the baby in my arms and I think that maybe someday, I’ll have one too. Then I see the midwife pour a red glob of something into a metal bowl and she catches my eye. “The placenta…” She says in an educational tone. The baby starts to feel VERY heavy. I see the midwives changing out some bloody mats from the bed. I feel a little faint. Maybe, I think, I’ll just get a goldfish or something.

Back in the saddle...

Well howdy everyone! I’m finally back in the swing of things. Today was my first day back at work since the party and all that and the in box is full. Our big presentation is on Friday and I’ve got lots of work to get the sketches done in time. *Daisy just jumped on my lap and licked my nose* That being said… The rest of life is slowing down to a nice summer pace. This will be my first summer free of the AF and all it’s obligations. Tim and I really looking forward to some camping, bike rides, and rock climbing. My folks are coming out for the July 4th week, so that should be lots of fun.

We just finished planting our garden with all of our little germinated plants. We should have a hefty amount of veggies and what not by the end of the summer. (If the squirrels don’t eat everything first) *Daisy is walking circles in my lap* All in all, I’m excited about the next few months.

Back to the SoDak trip. Boy, was that an adventure. Dane rode up there with us and we stayed at the same hotel as everyone who was going to the wedding. We met some new friends and spent a lot of time hanging with Justin and Sheila and their families. The guys spend the early part of Saturday up at Mt. Rushmore. The review was, “yep..them’re some biiiig heads on that thar rock”. But they did see a herd of Buffalo on the way back and got some great shots of that. I spent the day recovering from staying up too late nursing another drunken wedding guest up the stairs… (that’s right…2 hours for 3 flights of stairs) and getting my hair done for the wedding. We got some awesome pictures taken of everyone together and the wedding itself was short and sweet and really beautiful.

The reception was really fun. I think everyone (even Dane) had a good time… We stayed up a bit too late, but were still able to get up early enough to go see some buffalo while Dane slept it off back at the hotel. Ah…good times.

My birthday itself was really fabulous. Tim got me some awesome presents and sent me flowers at work. Then we went to dinner at Tamayo (which was wonderful). All in all I’d say 27 isn’t so bad, so far. I’m getting older but I’m still the youngest one at my job, so that makes me feel pretty good. ;)

Thanks again to everyone who helped out… I have the best friends a girl could ask for! Posted by Picasa

Tim shaved his face completely today. It's the first time I've ever seen all of his face, and I gotta tell ya.... My husband is a HOTTIE!  Posted by Picasa

Taaaa-Daaaaa!

The pictures are finally here. I'd like to give a HUGE shout out to my dear friend Pete who took all the photos you see on here. He is an amazing photographer and was nice enough to hand these pics over to me today.

I didn't even post half of the ones he gave me, but he posted them up on his site. Also, if anyone has any shots or video or whatever... let me know, because I want to see them.

The party was a HUGE success. I had the most fun and I really think everyone had a great time. There were some wonderful costumes and everyone really got into it. We had tons of karaoke and dancing. *whew* what a night...

More to come... I still need to report on SoDak, but I'm just trying to get a grip on things around here. My office is trashed, but the rest of the house is back to normal. Tim and I are going to just relax and take a break.

The party...

...was a HUGE success. More pictures and the full story still to come. *yawn* I'm soooo tired though. I'll write tomorrow.

p.s. Shout out to Heather, my fabulous bloggie friend who came and partied with us... She is so awesome! :) Posted by Picasa

Apologies...

I'm so sorry I haven't written anything. I can't even begin to explain how insane this week has been and is going to continue to be. I've got this HUGE proposal due at work that requires more hours than I have to give... Plus the big 80's Prom this Friday night, so I am just SWAMPED!

I've been working my hiney off at work and then trying to get this house in shape for the party. So far, we've got the entire dining room done and the living room walls covered in watery poly-vinyl. (thanks Jenny!) It's looking like an Underwater Fantasy baby! I'm almost done getting our costumes together... Tim is going to be a very sexy George Michael...

So, yeah... lots to share, but I just can't get to it all right now. I will tell you that it involves crazy drunken shenanigans of people at the wedding, food poisoning, and Sheila looking soooo ravishingly beautiful. More to come...

~e

p.s. I've only got a couple more hours of being 26.... wow. That went by so fast. I hope 27 is just as much fun! ;) Also, I think I noticed a wrinkle today. COINCIDENCE????? Posted by Picasa
