The Time Has Come...

Tim and I have been talking about Europe for AGES. We meant to go and then other stuff came up.... other stuff like parties, eating at expensive resturants, other vacations, shopping, parties, and well...parties. We really want to do a trip to Europe before the baby thing happens, so we are trying to find a trip that we want to take.

We looked in to Intrepid Travel, but I'm not sure it's quite what we're looking for. We want to see all the amazing stuff, but we also want it to be a fun vacation. I'm not sure if rushing Tim through train stations just so we can hit every stop is exactly romantic. Also, we really would like to have a hotel room to ourselves. It doesn't have to be fancy.... I'm perfectly fine with the European version of Motel 6. As long as there aren't any rats, roaches or other vermin, we'll probably be fine. I just don't want to be sharing a bunk bed and crammed into a tiny room with 10 strangers.

That being said, my priorities are Paris, Nice, Rome and Venice. Tim's priority is Amsterdam. ;) So, if any of my well traveled amigos out there have advice for how we should get started or any general words of wisdom, I'd appreciate it. Oh yeah... we really want to try to keep the trip under 5k...is that unreasonable?

Everyone I've spoken to says prague or budapest will give paris a serious run for its money. And for a LOT cheaper. just something to think about.

I'm excited for you guys :)

hey erin...i had to give you my two cents worth...skip Nice! i spent a month there and, while it is nice to swim in the summer, there isn't much else to do or see, you would be missing out on a lot better things if you went there! also, amsterdam is one of my fav. cities ever (and not just for the obvious reasons)...Paris is awesome and Rome literally took my breath away....hope this helped a little!

Definitely look into the packages offered by Go Ahead Tours. The prices include airfare, hotel (and service charges/tips), many meals, and a tour guide. Also, the entrance fees to any sights that are part of the tour. There are also "free days" in each tour to give you time to do your own exploring. Mandy and I are probably going to go with them this spring. What fun if we could bump into each other in Paris!

i'll call you this weekend to discuss the details. in short, i would suggest Paris (a must) and a small town in either Provence or the Loire Valley in place of Nice (it's OK, but not that great). Rome is also excellent and I would suggest going to Amalfi instead of Venice. Amalfi is a beautiful town in the cliffs next to the sea and it's only a couple hours from Rome. Venice is beautiful and romantic, but it's often way to crowded and if it rains it would really suck.

i'm just glad you're finally going, you're going to love it. you'll have to go back again and again.
