The key is...

To want what you have, love the one you're with, and desire nothing.
But I want this dress!
Man, learning to be enlightened is hard. Learning to be a real designer is hard. Everything is hard.
You know, I went to school 4 different times at Tech School to learn various skills pertaining to my job. Not one of those classes taught me how to design a logo or a business identity. I have figured out everything on my own and it shows. *sigh*
I can't wait until I start school. I'm so ready to learn stuff! Everyone keeps telling me that I'll be disappointed. They say that the professors in my career field can't give me the kind of knowledge that will improve me significantly. They say I already know most of the stuff that school will teach me.
That is despressing people! I slaved for 8 years in the military to earn money for my education. Please do NOT tell me that I'm wasting that $45,000 on stuff I already know!

I can't speak for graphic design, but in general I find the college experience very rewarding. At the time, I often felt I wasn't learning much but then at the end of the year I would realize that I had really grown, matured and learned. True, this wasn't only a result of attending classes, but it was part of it. Also, college puts you in an environment where you are surrounded by people that share a similar interest but are very different from you, often, I learned from them as much as the professors. The more open you are to learning, the more you will learn. And if there is particular information you want and they aren't teaching it in classes, go talk to the professors during office hours and they'll explain what you need to know.

I also heard often that I would be disappointed in college. I'm not. I am amazed at the small and big things that I learn (and this is SWOCC mind you). Go for it girl--it is worth it.
