Well, it's Sunday night... usually I'm grumpy on Sunday's but after the
amazing dinner I had tonight, it's hard to be anything but satisfied. :) It was a crazy busy week last week. It won't really be letting up until after the ORI, so if things seem sparse around here, it's cause I'll be working insane hours.
So let me just tell you about what I did this weekend. On Friday night, Tim and I went out with our friends Sam & Rachel to the Denver Metro Art Thesis Show at the 1080 Gallery. We went mainly because I'd heard that Summer, Tim's ex that he lived with for 3 years was going to be there. I've seen pictures of her, but I've never met her, so I just wanted to see what she was like.
Sick, I know...Why torture myself? Anyway, we went... I was nervous that she be pretty, nice, and smart and that I'd end up liking her, when really all I wanted was to settle my mind about her. It may be wrong, but I always felt like I was in competition with her. She was Tim's only real serious relationship, and even though I know why it didn't work out with them, I still felt insecure about her presence in this town. I didn't want to worry about running into her somewhere and it catching both Tim and I off guard... so instead I thought we'd rain on her parade, or thesis show, as it were. I know, I'm awful. :)
When we showed up and Tim pointed her out to me, I was stunned. This ghost that had been haunting me all this time was dressed like a circus performer. Seriously, I wish I would have had a camera. She was wearing a can-can girl costume. I'm not sure if it was part of her thesis, but she was wearing huge pink flowers in her hair. She slouched around her display wearing a strange (ill-fitting) corset with bra straps hanging out. And below that, a handkerchief hemmed skirt with fishnets and platforms. Oh yeah... and black satin armpit length gloves. It was truly a sight to behold. She was pretty in the face, but it was truly secondary to the gharish circus costume she had on...
Now, it may seem as though I am being catty. And, anyone who knows me knows that I'm not above such things. I've been known to deliver some thoughtlessly uncaring barbs at people... But I've tried to not do that as much. I don't want to be known as a bitch. So, after a few raised eyebrow comments I tried to smile brightly, nod politely, and enjoy the rest of the show.
Tim introduced me to her as his wife of nine months. She had this look of faux happiness and the moment seemed really awkward. I didn't say anything to her, other than the obligatory "nice to meet you". As we turned to check out her display I saw some frantic eye motions to one of her friends and heard some whispers, but that was it. We finished the show without incident.
So then we all decided to head out to the Breckinridge Brewery to meet up with Naya. As Tim and I were walking to the car, I finally turned to him and sad," Did she always wear insane crap when you were dating her? I mean seriously...that was a freaking Halloween costume!" B
